In the heart of Lünen, a unique initiative is underway to promote democratic values in public spaces. The project, known as "Democracy Lives!", has seen the creation of beer mats themed around democracy. These beer mats, distributed in public institutions, restaurants, and event venues, are the brainchild of Horst Engel, a leader of the project, and a group of students from the "Lifelong Learning" program at the University of Münster. The collaboration aims to foster a diverse, respectful, and democratic society locally in Lünen. The beer mats contain thought-provoking prompts that encourage citizens to discuss democratic values and social cohesion. The project is part of the federal "Democracy Lives!" program, which supports initiatives that promote democratic values and civic engagement. The "Partnership for Democracy Lünen", the local organisation driving this project, is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth's "Democracy Lives!" program. The organisation supports a variety of measures, including workshops, discussions, public actions, or creative projects that strengthen democratic values. If you're interested in submitting an application for an individual measure under the "Democracy Lives!" program, you have until October 5 to do so. For more information, you can contact Stefan Wrazidlo from the coordination and specialist office of AWO Ruhr-Lippe-Ems at 0160 84 06 332. For further details about the "Partnership for Democracy Lünen" and their ongoing projects, visit www.our website/democracy-lives. The beer mats initiative is just one of many creative ways the organisation is working to promote democratic values and community engagement in Lünen.
