European Commission Approves 1 Million Euro Funding for Listed Projects

The City of Essen is offering the "Ehrenamtsstipendium für junge Engagierte" (volunteer scholarship for young volunteers) in 2026 to recognise and support young individuals who balance their education, studies, or job with volunteer work.

Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old and not older than 27 in 2026. They must also be enrolled in a school, vocational training, university, or voluntary social year in 2026. Importantly, applicants cannot already be receiving other funding, such as the Deutschlandstipendium.

Applicants must be active members of an association, federation, or similar institution based in Essen. The application period for the scholarship runs from May 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025. The website for more information and registration is located at www.our website/ehrenamtsstipendium.

The scholarship is valued at 150 euros per month and will be awarded for one year. Recipients will have the opportunity to network with each other and maintain regular contact with the city portal's civic participation and volunteer affairs department.

The city portal aims to express gratitude and appreciation towards young volunteers who make a difference in their community under the motto "Your volunteer work counts!". The Ehrenamtsstipendium was introduced by the city portal in 2025 to support young people involved in volunteer work.

For any queries or additional information, the city portal's Press and Communications Office can be contacted at presse@our website, phone number +49 201 88-0 (ServiceCenter Essen), and their website is located at www.our website/presse.

Contact persons for the scholarship at the city portal's civic participation and volunteer affairs department are Jakob Schloß, who can be reached at [email protected] website, phone number 0201 88-88816, and Christine Meyer, who can be reached at [email protected] website, phone number 0201 88-88821.

The foundation that awards the scholarship is the City of Essen (Stadt Essen). The scholarship is offered directly by the city itself. The recipients of the scholarship will be determined by a lottery following the application period.
