Europe Festivity Erupts in Detmold
Detmold, Germany, is gearing up for a week-long celebration of European culture and history, as the city prepares for the "European Days 2025". From May 3rd to 11th, a variety of events will take place, showcasing the richness and diversity of Europe.
The detailed programme for these events can be found on the "European Days 2025" subpage. Highlights include the event series "UN-Ltd. - for a democratic, borderless Europe", which promises thought-provoking discussions and engaging activities.
On May 7th, history buffs won't want to miss Dr. Alessandro Bellardita's lecture titled "True Crime Democracy - How our constitution came about", taking place in the cafeteria of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Berufskolleg at 7 PM. Meanwhile, music lovers can enjoy the traditional Europe concert of the city gymnasium Detmold, happening in Martin-Luther-Kirche at 7:30 PM on the same day.
For those interested in contemporary art, the Greek artists of the association Aristi from Oraiokastro are preparing an exhibition titled "The Hidden View" in Hangar 21. The official opening is on May 11th at 11 AM.
On May 8th, Prof. Dr. Arnd Bauerkaemper will give a lecture about the consequences and interpretations of May 8th, 1945, in the small festival hall of the city hall.
The popular European market will take place at the Rosental-Galerie on May 10th, from 10 AM to 1 PM. Visitors can expect a variety of stalls selling European goods, food, and crafts.
On the same day, at 5:45 PM, the official Europe celebration of the city portal will take place in Heiligenkirchen, with a focus on awards for voluntary commitment in the twinning with Zeitz.
The week will culminate in Detmold's 35th anniversary of its twinning with Zeitz on May 9th. The celebration will include a German dialogue moderated by journalist Ralph Sina.
Lastly, Erich Kästner's classic "Emil and the Detectives" will be performed by Karambolage youth theater in Leopoldinum on May 3rd at 5 PM.
