EU Launches New Competition for Graduate Jobs in Brussels Institutions
The European Union is opening doors for university graduates looking to start a career in its institutions. A new competition for administrative officer roles (AD5 grade) has been launched by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO). The positions provide a chance to work in a multicultural setting and shape EU policies—no prior professional experience is needed.
The competition targets graduates from EU member countries who hold at least a three-year university degree. Applicants must also have strong knowledge of one of the EU's official languages. Successful candidates will join the External Action Service and contribute to policy-making, legislative analysis, and program management.
To help prospective applicants, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus is hosting an information seminar on March 5, 2024, from 17:00 to 19:00. The session aims to guide candidates through the selection process, which includes logical reasoning tests, EU knowledge assessments, and a written exam.
This entry-level competition typically draws between 20,000 and 60,000 applicants annually, depending on the role. For example, around 25,000 applied for generalist AD5 positions in 2023. The process is designed to identify candidates with diverse skills, offering them a dynamic and rewarding career path.
The AD5 competition serves as the basic entry point for graduates into EU institutions. Those selected will work in a challenging environment, supporting policy development and decision-making. The roles provide a foundation for long-term careers in European administration.
