ETSU Earns Gold for 15th Year as a Top Military-Friendly University
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) has once again been recognised for its strong support of military students. The university earned Gold status in the Military Friendly® School Rankings 2025-26, placing it among the top 32 large public institutions in the US. This marks the 15th consecutive year ETSU has received the prestigious designation.
Nate Nelson, a U.S. Army veteran studying at ETSU, has firsthand experience of the university’s commitment. He described feeling welcomed and supported, both in the classroom and at the MARC Center, a dedicated space for military-affiliated students. The Military and Veteran Services office played a key role in helping him navigate VA benefits and register for courses.
ETSU provides a range of tailored services for military-connected students. These include **personalised counselling, priority course registration, and work-study opportunities**. The university also offers **Green Zone training** for faculty and staff, ensuring they understand the unique experiences of student veterans. Col. Dan Bishop, Director of Military and Veteran Services, highlighted the university’s dedication. He noted that while the Gold status is an honour, the real reward comes from seeing military-connected students thrive.
ETSU’s consistent recognition reflects its long-standing efforts to support veterans and their families. The university’s structured programmes and specialised resources aim to ease the transition into academic life. With 15 years of Military Friendly® status, ETSU continues to set a high standard for military student services.
