Erfurt’s Vocational Hub Shapes Thuringia’s Workforce for Over a Century
The Erfurt Education and Training Center (ebz) has been a pillar of vocational education in Thuringia for over a century. Established in 1990, it has evolved to meet the demands of a changing world, gaining praise from local leaders like Lord Mayor Andreas Horn.
Originally operating in former GDR-era buildings, the ebz expanded its offerings post-reunification. Today, it provides career guidance, training in over 80 professions, and advanced education. The center's roots trace back to the 1897 founding of the Berlin-Erfurt Machine Factory Henry Pels & Co.
In 2002, the Thuringian Foundation for Education and Professional Qualification was established as the ebz's umbrella organization. Minister-President Mario Voigt supports the ebz, aiming to restore Thuringia's industrial power through reduced bureaucracy and further training. The center maintains partnerships with over 600 contract partners, both locally and internationally.
The ebz, with its rich history and wide range of services, continues to play a crucial role in Thuringia's vocational education landscape. Its impact, both locally and internationally, is recognized and supported by regional leaders.
