Engineering Institute to Launch at Fusina by UrFU

Ural Federal University (UrFU) and Liaoning Technical University (LNTU) have taken a significant step forward in their collaboration, announcing the joint establishment of an engineering institute in Chinese Fusine. The announcement was made following an agreement signed by the Acting Rector of UrFU, Ilya Obabkov, and President of LNTU, Ma Xiuyuan.

The new engineering institute is expected to foster scientific ties through educational initiatives, focusing on areas that are strategically important for both partnering countries. These fields include energy, advanced materials, environmental engineering, IT, mechatronics, engineering, artificial intelligence in power engineering, and applied artificial intelligence.

Young teachers from at least four institutes of UrFU will travel to China in September to teach three-week modules at the new institute. Up to 360 students will be admitted annually, with education conducted in English.

This is not the first collaboration between UrFU and LNTU. In fact, they had previously signed a memorandum of cooperation, and UrFU has established collaboration with 50 universities in China. Liaoning Technical University is a leading engineering university in China and a member of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China.

The project offers an opportunity for young teachers to gain international experience, and over 1,400 Chinese students already study at UrFU. It's worth noting that UrFU also operates a Confucius Institute, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to cultural exchange and collaboration with China.

The new agreement with Chinese colleagues follows a memorandum of cooperation between the universities, signed in November 2024 in Fusine. Three years ago, UrFU received approval for a joint English-language master's program in "Smart City Energy" with Taiyuan University of Technology until 2028.

The joint engineering institute in Fusine is a testament to the strong and growing relationship between UrFU and LNTU, and it underscores the mutual commitment to scientific development and educational exchange. For more specific details about the joint engineering institute, potential students and educators are encouraged to contact UrFU or LNTU directly or check their official websites for information on any joint educational initiatives they are involved in.
