Energy Day is celebrated in Kazakhstan today

Kazakhstan marks Energy Workers’ Day today, celebrating those who keep the country powered. The event also aligns with the national Year of Skilled Professions, highlighting the importance of technical expertise. In Astana, future energy specialists gathered for a day of learning and recognition.

At the Energy Institute, director Almagul Mergaliyeva opened the event by congratulating students on their professional holiday. She emphasised the vital role of young engineers in shaping the sector’s future.

Representatives from the Astana Electricity Grid Company (AEGC) joined the celebrations, discussing career paths for new graduates. The company’s HR director and practicing engineers led a professional quiz, testing students on real-world challenges. Topics included solar power plant operations and emergency backup systems. The quiz winner, Alina, stood out by breaking the stereotype that power engineering is a male-dominated field. Her success drew attention to the growing diversity in the profession. AEGC also noted that most of its department heads had graduated from the capital’s agrarian university, reinforcing the link between education and industry leadership. Throughout the day, engineers shared practical case studies, giving students a glimpse into daily operations. The event underscored how energy professionals’ work becomes especially visible on days like today.

The celebrations combined education, recognition, and career guidance for aspiring engineers. Students left with a clearer understanding of the industry’s demands and opportunities. The event also reinforced the importance of skilled workers in maintaining Kazakhstan’s energy infrastructure.
