Elder care workers share unexpected joys and challenges at Gulielminetti’s networking event

Trainees and experienced staff from Gulielminetti Senior Living and Nursing Home recently met for the Guli-Treff main event at Café Greinwald in Marktoberdorf. The gathering focused on networking, sharing experiences, and discussing the realities of working in elder care. Many attendees admitted they had not originally planned to enter the field but now find it deeply fulfilling.

The event brought together employees at different career stages to talk about vocational training and daily challenges. Since 2020, nursing training in Germany has required a generalised approach, including placements outside the trainee’s main facility. Some trainees still face scepticism from friends and family about their career choice, yet they described their work as varied and meaningful—no two days are ever the same.

Renate Dauner, who has worked at Gulielminetti for nearly three decades, highlighted the trainees’ resilience. She noted their ability to stay positive despite difficult moments. The team also emphasised the supportive atmosphere at the facility, which helps both new and long-serving staff navigate the demands of elder care. Conversations covered the highs and lows of the job, from emotional connections with residents to the practical skills needed for the role. Many shared stories of unexpected rewards, proving that the profession offers more than they initially expected.

The Guli-Treff main event provided a space for honest discussion about the realities of elder care training. Attendees left with a stronger sense of community and a clearer understanding of the profession’s challenges and joys. The event reinforced the importance of support networks in helping trainees thrive in their careers.
