EKU Tops 2026-27 Military Friendly Schools as Best Public University for Veterans

Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) has been ranked the top large public university in the 2026-27 Military Friendly Schools list. The recognition highlights its long-standing dedication to supporting veterans, service members, and their families. Over 3,200 institutions took part in the survey, which assessed areas like recruitment, graduation rates, and career support for military-connected students.

EKU has earned a reputation for excellence in veterans' education, securing a top-five spot for four years in a row. Last year, it was the only Kentucky university in the top ten. The campus is home to more than 1,900 veterans, active-duty personnel, reservists, and military families.

The Veterans Education and Transition Support (VETS) Center provides a central hub for these students. Here, they can access scholarships, transition programmes, and academic guidance. The Office of Military and Veteran Affairs (OMVA) also helps with VA benefits, priority registration, and tailored advising. University leaders have welcomed the latest honour. President David McFaddin called it a privilege to serve military-connected students. Kayla Lopez, vice president of memberships at Military Friendly, praised EKU's transformative support. Joshua Maynard, a veteran and director of EKU Veterans Upward Bound, also commended the university's ongoing commitment to this community.

The ranking reflects EKU's structured support for veterans and their families. Programmes like the VETS Center and OMVA ensure students receive academic, financial, and career assistance. This year's top position reinforces the university's role as a leading institution for military-connected learners.
