At Princeton University, students and faculty have access to a wealth of resources, including Lynda.com, now integrated with LinkedIn Learning, which offers a wide range of courses on software, design, and professional skills. This service is free for enrolled students and active faculty and staff.

To access Lynda at Princeton, students and staff should visit the university's Library website or the online learning resources page. There, they can find the LinkedIn Learning/Lynda.com link, often located under digital resources or research tools. After logging in with their Princeton NetID and password, they can browse or search for courses on various topics.

One student, enrolled in ARC 205, an interdisciplinary architectural design studio as part of their Urban Studies Certificate, was recently directed to Lynda to learn Photoshop for their first design project, an architectural collage. Each tutorial on Lynda is organised into digestible lessons to help learn a specific skill.

The student's design project does not involve the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library or the Digital Learning Lab. However, the Digital Learning Lab offers resources such as Macs, tablets, and Photoshop, which the student may utilise for their project.

In addition to Lynda, Princeton University offers other research-based courses. One such course is based at the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library, while another is situated at the Digital Learning Lab. These courses provide students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on research and develop their skills in various fields.

In ARC 205, students meet for six hours a week to develop drawing, design, and analysis skills. Each week, new drawing assignments are given to improve architectural analysis skills. The instructors provide personalised feedback during "Desk Crits" and one-on-one meetings outside of class.

For this student, the coursework has been challenging, as they have never drawn extensively before and find most assignments outside their comfort zone. However, with the help of Lynda and their instructors, they are making progress and looking forward to the next steps in their architectural design journey.

Technology plays a significant role in education and self-development at Princeton University, as students and faculty have access to online resources like LinkedIn Learning (formally Lynda.com), offering courses on various topics such as software, design, and professional skills. Learning new skills, like Photoshop, through online education platforms, helps students excel in their education and pursue their interests, like architecture.
