Democracy Week empowers students through civic engagement and hands-on learning

Democracy Week recently brought students together to explore civic engagement and local issues. Through workshops, games, and discussions, young people got hands-on experience with democratic processes. The events included a simulation game, a Youth Parliament session, and a casual 'Pizza & Politics' gathering.

The 'Quararo' simulation game was a key part of the week. Six student groups from different schools took part, debating topics like freedom of speech, minority rights, and justice. They made decisions, voted on rules, and experienced how democracy works in practice.

Another highlight was the 'Your Voice, Your State' workshop, led by the Children and Youth Participation Agency of Baden-Württemberg (SKJB). Students from Ludwig-Dürr-Schule joined in, guided by university volunteers from Konstanz and Stuttgart. The workshop covered essential topics such as the state parliament, political parties, elections, and how to find reliable information about candidates. A session of the Youth Parliament and the 'Pizza & Politics' event at MOLKE also took place. These gave guests a chance to talk with members of the Youth Parliament and District Youth Council. Students brainstormed local concerns, including outdoor gathering spaces, healthcare access, and lively city centres.

Participants shared positive feedback about the week's activities. They enjoyed the chance to engage in decision-making and open discussions on democracy and community issues. The events provided practical experience in shaping local policies and understanding civic responsibility.
