Delaware County Community College expands deadline for its complimentary educator training initiative

In a bid to address a statewide teacher shortage, the Delaware County Community College (DCCC) has extended the deadline for its Future Educators Certificate of Competency Dual Enrollment Program to August 3, 2025. This initiative, launched in 2023, has tripled in size since its inception and is now open to more high school juniors in Delaware County.

The program offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical education experience, allowing students to earn up to 38 college credits towards an education degree while still in high school. It is a key part of the website's focus on fact-based, in-depth journalism and information, powered by Hearken.

Delaware County Council Chair Dr. Monica Taylor and Vice Chair Richard Womack have expressed their support for the program. Womack emphasized that the program benefits the entire community by building strong schools. He stated, "This program empowers local students to become future educators in Delaware County, helping to address the teacher shortage."

The program is free, with tuition and learning material costs funded by Delaware County Council. Richard McFadden, DCCC’s dean of Business, Computing and Social Science, spoke positively about the program in a press release. He highlighted the program's aim to encourage students who want to pursue a career in education.

The program welcomed its first cohort in 2023 and is offered at the Marple Campus of DCCC. Eligibility is targeted at high school juniors in Delaware County.
