Dagestan's 'Lezginka' Ensemble Captivates Cyprus in Unity Day Celebration
Cyprus recently hosted a cultural extravaganza, 'Multinational Russia', to celebrate Unity Day. The highlight was a captivating performance by Dagestan’s 'Lezginka' Dance Ensemble, which drew over 350 attendees, including Russian compatriots, Cypriots, diplomats, and business leaders.
The 'Lezginka' Dance Ensemble, led by Dzhambulat Magomedov, presented a seven-piece program. They showcased 'Rhythms of the Caucasus' and 'Daggers', before closing with the symbolic 'Friendship of Peoples'. Magomedov, an Honored Artist of Russia, saw their performance as a 'bridge of friendship' between Russia and Cyprus.
Russia’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Murat Zyazikov, hailed the ensemble’s visit as a 'cultural landing in Europe'. The event was part of a larger festival celebrating Russia’s diversity. A flash mob, 'Many Peoples, One Homeland!', highlighted the country’s ethnic groups, languages, and traditions. Zyazikov emphasized the unity of Russia’s diverse people in defending their homeland.
Anastasios Kouzalis, president of the Cyprus Association of Graduates from Soviet and Russian Universities, received a Certificate of Gratitude from Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education for promoting the Russian language. Dmitry Apraksin, chairman of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Cyprus, was awarded the Rossotrudnichestvo Medal 'For Strengthening Peace, Friendship, and Cooperation'.
The 'Lezginka' Dance Ensemble's performance and the 'Multinational Russia' festival fostered cultural exchange and unity. The event, attended by prominent figures, showcased the strength of Russia’s diverse cultural heritage and its appreciation abroad.
