Colorado's 2026 Democracy Summit Opens Courts and Civic Dialogue to the Public

Colorado State University will host the 2026 Democracy Summit from March 9 to 11. The event brings together residents, students, and community leaders for discussions on civic life and democratic engagement in the Centennial State. Attendees will have the chance to interact with scholars, judges, and political experts over three days of sessions and presentations.

A key feature of the summit is Courts in the Community, scheduled for March 10. During this session, the public can observe the Colorado Court of Appeals as it hears two active legal cases. Presiding judges include CSU alumni Chief Judge Gilbert Román and Judge Craig Welling, alongside Judge Stephanie Dunn. While specific case details remain undisclosed, organisers have prepared lesson plans and mock arguments to guide public understanding.

Another highlight is the panel discussion The State of Democracy in the USA, examining current political and civic trends in the country. Students will also take part by presenting proposals for improving civic engagement as part of the Colorado Democracy Prize competition. Alongside these, the summit offers panel discussions, student-led presentations, and opportunities for direct dialogue with experts.

Further information, including a full schedule of sessions, is available on Colorado State University's official event page.
