Cobb County schools ban student phones and smartwatches by 2026

Cobb County School District has voted to ban personal electronics in elementary and middle schools. The move follows Georgia’s new statewide mandate, which restricts devices like phones, headphones, and smartwatches during school hours. Some parents, however, worry the policy could create challenges for their children.

The district’s decision means students in elementary and middle schools will no longer be allowed to use personal devices, including phones, headphones, reading tablets, and smartwatches. The ban will take effect in the 2026-2027 school year, giving officials until July to finalise the policy.

The policy will be finalised by next summer, with the ban starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. Students with specific needs, like Dennis’ daughter, may face adjustments in how they manage daily challenges. The district’s next steps will determine how the new rules are applied across schools.
