Classroom App Innovation: Enhancing Diversity through Expert Opinions

The Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium in Gundelfingen is one of 15 schools in Baden-Württemberg using an innovative educational initiative called "Life Teach Us". This project aims to bring professional experience and practical knowledge into schools, enriching the learning environment and providing students with a broader perspective.

Recently, Gudrun Toepfer, an IT entrepreneur and one of around 12,000 "Life Teachers" across Germany, was a guest in a 10a class at the school. Gudrun shared her experiences and insights, particularly discussing her volunteer work in a rescue dog unit. This was a fascinating opportunity for the students, including Levi, who expressed an interest in learning about various professions for potential inspiration.

Gudrun often participates in school lessons remotely due to her work schedule, but she can also attend in person if possible. The school uses an app called "Life Teach Us" to facilitate these substitute lessons. Teachers can invite professionals from various fields to share their experiences in the classroom through the app.

Simone Staritz, a teacher at the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, regularly invites experts for her lessons through the "Life Teach Us" project. She believes that her teaching is enriched by the authentic insights provided by experts, even in substitute lessons.

One student mentioned that their grandmother is skeptical about artificial intelligence, sparking a discussion about the potential use of AI in education and other fields. Gudrun proposed developing an AI tool to preserve the knowledge of departing employees, an idea that piqued the interest of several students. Another student expressed concern about the accessibility of this AI tool to everyone.

Isabelle, a classmate of Levi, was amazed that one can "just start a company", demonstrating the inspiring impact these guest lectures can have on students. The founder of the initiative "Life Teach Us" is Clemens Bittner.

It's worth noting that volunteers for the "Life Teach Us" project undergo preparation workshops before being added to the expert pool. Currently, there are around 1,000 experts in the "Life Teach Us" expert pool in the region.

The "Life Teach Us" project is funded solely through donations and contributions, highlighting the community's commitment to providing valuable educational opportunities for its students. This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of real-world experiences in shaping the minds of tomorrow.
