Church of England invests $3M to empower disabled and neurodivergent members

The Church of England has allocated over $3 million to support deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals in parish life. The funding will also focus on encouraging vocations to the priesthood among these groups over the next three years.

The Disability and Deaf Ministry Task Groups will oversee the initiative. Their work will include people with mental health difficulties, physical disabilities, and neurodivergent conditions.

Funds will go towards events for both lay and ordained vocations, leadership training, and grants to improve building accessibility. The goal is to remove barriers that prevent full participation in church activities.

The three-year plan aims to create more opportunities for underrepresented groups within the Church. Improved access to buildings and targeted leadership programmes will help increase involvement in parish roles.
