Chesterton students embark on life-changing Rome pilgrimage of faith and culture

Around 240 high school students from the Chesterton Schools Network have arrived in Rome for their annual pilgrimage. The trip, designed for upperclassmen, also includes visits to Florence and Assisi. For many, like Nora Kennedy from Illinois, the experience has already become unforgettable—the best of their lives so far.

The Chesterton Schools Network organises this pilgrimage each year, offering students a chance to explore Rome's religious and cultural landmarks. The group attended the pope's Wednesday general audience, an event Nora Kennedy called especially moving. Father Joseph Johnson, the network's chaplain, noted how the students joined thousands of Catholics in St. Peter's Square, sharing in a moment of global faith.

The network follows a classical education model inspired by writer G.K. Chesterton. Schools focus on three key areas: intellectual growth through great works, character development, and spiritual formation. Konstantinos Karnezis, another student, echoed Kennedy's excitement, calling the trip a 'blessing'. Joe Long, president of ProRome Tours, has arranged these pilgrimages since 2019. His company handles logistics, ensuring students visit historic sites while deepening their faith. Kennedy, reflecting on her time at Chesterton Academy, described the school's impact as life-changing—with faith woven into every aspect of learning.

The pilgrimage brings together students from classical Catholic schools across the network. They return home with memories of Rome's sacred sites and a stronger connection to their faith. For many, the journey reinforces the values taught in their classrooms—intellectual curiosity, moral strength, and spiritual devotion.
