Celebrations marking the 180th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev commence in the capital city.

The bustling atmosphere at Capital School-Gymnasium No87, a symbol of Kazakh heritage, roared to life as it hosted "The Golden Words of the Wise Abai." This inaugural event marked the beginning of a series of commemorative activities celebrating Abai Kunanbayev's 180th birthday.
Named after the renowned Kazakh poet, the school opened its doors in 2019, during the 175th birthday celebrations. Ever since, students from grades 1 to 11 have been delving into "Abaitanu" – a treasure trove of Abai Kunanbayev's life and works. Over five eventful years, Capital School-Gymnasium No87 has made significant strides in promoting the literary and intellectual legacy of this legendary poet.
During the event, students impressed with their thorough understanding of Abai Kunanbayev's remarkable body of work. They regaled the audience with recitations of his poetry, aphorisms, and poignant extracts from his masterpieces.
"Our mission is to nurture well-rounded, morally upright, and holistically developed individuals who exemplify Abai's vision of the 'complete person.' Today's event provided a platform for our students to demonstrate the fruits of their labor," commented Aigul Kashaeva, Director of Capital School-Gymnasium No87.
The event also garnered the attention of Almahan Mukhametkalikazy, a distinguished Abai scholar, poet, and member of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.
"I've been engrossed in Abai's works since my nascent years and view it as my responsibility to lend support to events like these. Such events play a pivotal role in bolstering national identity, cherishing cultural values, and instilling respect for our history," shared Almahan Mukhametkalikazy.
The stage was also graced by students who've made their mark in city and national competitions themed around Abai's works. Their captivating performances served as yet another testament to Abai Kunanbayev's creative genius.
