Cascade Elementary wins state math title with Khan Academy's help
Cascade Elementary School has been named the state math champion for December after students solved more than 7,700 questions correctly. The achievement comes as the school adopts Khan Academy, an online learning program designed to boost math skills. Teachers and students are now celebrating their progress—and setting their sights on a national title.
The school began using Khan Academy this year to tackle declining math test scores. Since then, students have shown noticeable improvement, leading to their recent state victory.
A pep rally was held to mark the win, with Principal Tiffany Momon and teacher Karen White leading the celebrations. Third grader Jace Bulger spoke about his pride in the school's success and how it inspired his classmates to keep pushing forward.
Cascade Elementary will now compete against other monthly winners from across the country in the Khan Academy National Cup this May. The stakes are high: the winning school will receive $200,000 for new technology and teaching resources.
The state title reflects the school's growing confidence in math, thanks to its new learning program. If Cascade Elementary wins the national competition, the prize money will fund further upgrades to classroom tools. For now, students and staff are focused on preparing for the next challenge in May.
