Buttigieg and Brooks Call for Unity Against Trumpism

Pete Buttigieg, the former Democratic presidential hopeful and transportation secretary, has cautioned against slipping into 'dark times' and has urged Democrats to acknowledge their missteps, especially in migration policy, to rally a broad movement against Trumpism. Meanwhile, Mo Brooks, a Republican figure, has called on progressives and populists to unite to avert an authoritarian state.

Buttigieg views both peril and possibility in artificial intelligence, likening it to the industrialization of the early 20th century. He worries that the Trump administration's embrace of Silicon Valley's 'move fast and break things' mantra to dismantle democratic initiatives is troubling. Both Buttigieg and Brooks yearn for a counter-reaction against Trump and MAGA, reminiscent of the Progressives and populists who united a century ago. They both stress that a mass movement is necessary to combat Trumpism and prevent it from dominating for generations.

The Trump family's actions have been compared to those of a mafia clan, intimidating universities, law firms, and media, and misusing the Department of Justice for political retribution. Under President Trump, ICE has essentially been transformed into a private army, with support from the National Guard.

Buttigieg and Brooks' calls for unity and a mass movement underscore the need for collective action against authoritarian leanings. Their warnings about the Trump administration's actions and the potential hazards of unchecked power emphasize the importance of robust democratic institutions and an engaged citizenry.
