Budapest Gathering Unites Diverse Christian Leaders for Global Mission

A four-day gathering in Budapest has brought together Christian leaders from 37 countries. Held from 2 to 5 November, the event aimed to amplify voices often overlooked in European discussions about faith and mission. Usha Reifsnider and Jim Memory co-led the meeting as Co-Regional Directors for Lausanne Europe.

The Budapest event was part of a global series leading up to the Fourth Lausanne Congress in Seoul, South Korea, in September 2024. Unlike many international conferences, this one moved away from relying solely on English, incorporating multilingual worship and discussions.

Organisers made a deliberate effort to include diverse perspectives, ensuring representation from women, young adults under 35, and Christians with migrant backgrounds. The gathering also highlighted workplace ministry leaders and minority voices, aiming to give space to those often sidelined in broader conversations. Rather than functioning as a traditional conference, the event focused on building relationships among national leaders. It sought to strengthen local Lausanne Movements across Europe while encouraging participants to envision how their churches could contribute to global evangelism. Attendees left with a renewed sense of hope, believing that Jesus continues to transform lives in Europe and call Europeans to share their faith worldwide.

The Budapest gathering concluded with a call to action for European Christian leaders. It reinforced the importance of diverse voices in shaping the future of the church's mission. The discussions and connections made will feed into the wider preparations for the 2024 Lausanne Congress in Seoul.
