Brandenburg implements new all-day school - what changes? - Brandenburg guarantees full-day care for all primary school children by 2030
Brandenburg is rolling out a major expansion of childcare for primary school pupils. From August 2026, all children starting first watch will have the right to full-day education and care. The scheme will eventually cover every child in grades one through four by the 2029/2030 school year.
The new law guarantees eight hours of daily care, five days a week, including during school holidays. This right extends to children repeating first watch in 2026/2027 and those attending special education schools. Each year, new first-graders will join the system, keeping their entitlement until the end of fourth grade.
The changes will provide structured, full-day care for thousands of children across Brandenburg. Schools will maintain existing meal and transport services while gradually increasing teaching support. The final phase of the rollout is expected to complete by the 2029/2030 school year.
