Bor Gubernia College Launches Cableway Expert Training with UrbanTech Service

Bor Gubernia College has partnered with UrbanTech Service LLC to launch a specialised training programme for cableway and funicular experts. The new initiative will provide students with hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications, starting this spring.

The college, which has offered vocational education since 2013, signed a cooperation agreement with UrbanTech Service to develop the programme. The company operates the Nizhny Novgorod–Bor gondola lift, recently modernised in 2025 to double cabin capacity and increase passenger throughput.

New training modules will be added to the curriculum this year for third- and fourth-year students. Course materials were created with input from industry professionals, ensuring alignment with current standards. Practical sessions will take place directly on the Nizhny Novgorod–Bor cableway, beginning in spring.

Graduates who complete the programme will receive a state-issued certificate and priority consideration for employment. They can also earn additional qualifications, such as electromechanics specialising in cableway operation or inspector roles. The initiative supports Professionalitet (Professionalism), a federal project under the national Youth and Children programme.

The partnership aims to fill a gap in specialised training for cableway and funicular systems in Russia. Students will gain practical skills and improved job prospects upon completion. The first cohort will begin their practical training this spring.
