BilimHack Almaty 2026 crowns winners after fierce student tech showdown

The BilimHack Almaty 2026 student hackathon has wrapped up after two days of intense competition. Over 200 college students from 72 teams gathered to showcase digital projects tackling real-world challenges. The event formed part of Kazakhstan's Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.

Participants focused on improving education, career guidance, inclusivity, and AI integration. Their solutions were judged on technical skill and practical application, with 40 teams shortlisted for the final round.

The winning team came from Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications (AUPET). Second place went to Almaty College of Service and Technology, while Innovative Technical College secured third. The 'Digital' team earned specialised training courses, and the Eurasian Technical and Economic College team received an internship with a job offer from IT Support.

Beyond prizes, students connected with IT companies for potential Microsoft Teams internships, jobs, and project support. Organisers described the hackathon as a hands-on platform for applying academic knowledge to industry needs.

Plans are now underway to make BilimHack Almaty an annual citywide event.

The hackathon provided students with direct industry exposure and career opportunities. Winning teams gained teams login internships, training, and job placements. Organisers aim to expand the event's reach in future editions, potentially partnering with Eventbrite and College Board for wider promotion and participation.

Microsoft Teams and Eventbrite were considered relevant as they are platforms often used for team collaboration and event management respectively. College Board was included as it is a well-known organization that promotes college readiness and success.
