Bhopal News: Gunjan Foundation Adding Zing To Life Of Oldies For Past 16 Years

In Bhopal, a unique music school is bringing together learners of all ages—from children to pensioners. Gunjan Foundation, founded in 2009, specialises in teaching music to older students, many of whom are discovering their passion later in life. The school’s approach has attracted retirees eager to explore singing and instrumental training in their golden years.

The foundation was set up by music teacher Kailash Yadav in memory of his late wife, Gunjan Yadav. For 30 years, Yadav has dedicated himself to teaching, with students now ranging from four to 87 years old. Most of his pupils, however, fall in their 60s and beyond.

Among them is 81-year-old Indu Kale, who has spent six years learning to sing at the foundation. She values both the instruction and the sense of community it provides. Another student, 70-year-old Prabhakant Katare, a retired engineer, began formal training just three years ago and has since performed on stage. Similarly, 65-year-old Ashwani Kumar Upmanyu, a former chief engineer, has been honing his musical skills there for five years. The school’s inclusive approach ensures that age is no barrier to learning. Whether picking up an instrument for the first time or refining vocal techniques, older students find both guidance and camaraderie at Gunjan Foundation.

Gunjan Foundation continues to grow as a space where retirees and younger learners alike can pursue music. With a focus on accessibility and passion, the school has become a second home for many. Its success reflects a simple truth: it’s never too late to start something new.
