New Forensic Psychiatric Care Facility Opens in Berlin-Tempelhof - Berlin Opens New Forensic Psychiatric Facility for Offenders with Mental Illness
A new forensic psychiatric facility has opened in Berlin-Tempelhof. The centre will house offenders with mental health conditions who are not fully or only partially criminally responsible for their actions. It is run jointly by a forensic psychiatric hospital and the police. The facility has already taken in 46 offenders with substance use disorders. These individuals were moved from two older, overcrowded sites in Berlin-Buch and Reinickendorf. The transfer aims to reduce pressure on those locations while providing specialized care. The opening of this facility follows a need for better mental health care within the criminal justice system. It will now serve as a dedicated space for offenders requiring both security and treatment. No details about the facility’s leadership have been released.
