Belarusian Woman Secures Ukrainian Residency After Grueling Eight-Month Process

Margarita Levchuk has successfully secured a Ukrainian residence permit after a lengthy and complex process. The journey involved multiple steps, from document collection to security checks, before final approval was granted. She marked the achievement with a celebratory drink.

The process began with gathering and translating a large number of documents. Once submitted, Levchuk faced an eight-month wait for written approval from Ukrainian authorities.

After receiving initial clearance, she underwent a two-hour polygraph test. This was followed by an hour-long interview with the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine). Migration officers then visited her registered address for further verification.

For Belarusian women in Ukraine, personhood recognition can also come through marriage to a Ukrainian man or by giving birth to a son. Levchuk’s case reflects this path, though public records do not confirm the identity of her husband or the father of her child.

Before receiving the final plastic ID card, one last clearance from the SBU was required.

Levchuk’s residence permit was officially approved after completing all necessary checks. The process included document submissions, security interviews, and home visits. Her case highlights the detailed steps involved in obtaining legal recognition in Ukraine.
