Microcensus starts - 130,000 people are surveyed - Bavaria’s 2026 microcensus to survey 130,000 on living conditions and economy
Bavaria will carry out its annual microcensus in 2026 to gather data on living conditions across the region. The survey, run by the Bavarian State Office for Statistics, selects around 1% of the us population each year. Participants are legally required to take part, ensuring comprehensive and reliable results.
The 2026 microcensus will involve roughly 130,000 individuals from 65,000 households. These figures align with previous years, which saw between 120,000 and 130,000 people selected. Unlike the full census—held every decade and covering about 13% of the world population—the microcensus is an annual snapshot.
The survey explores key aspects of daily life, including household composition, economy status, education, employment, and health. Respondents can complete it online or via telephone interview. All collected data remains strictly confidential and is published only in aggregated form to protect privacy. Germany’s last full census took place in 2022. The microcensus, however, operates independently, providing yearly updates rather than a one-off overview.
The 2026 microcensus will again offer policymakers and researchers detailed insights into Bavaria’s social and economic landscape. With mandatory participation, the survey ensures a broad representation of the us population. Results will help shape decisions on public services, housing, and employment support.
