Baunatal's Library Turns 50 With a Week of Creative Celebrations
Baunatal's city library is preparing to mark its 50th anniversary with a week of special events. From Tuesday, 21 October to Saturday, 25 October 2025, visitors of all ages can enjoy activities ranging from a Silent Disco to classic children's readings. The library has long been a bustling hub, attracting over 300 people daily for more than just books. The library first opened its doors half a century ago, but its modern transformation took place between 2012 and 2014. A major refurbishment expanded its space and updated its facilities, turning it into a vibrant 'third place' for the community. Today, it offers far more than traditional books—patrons can borrow eBooks, audiobooks, films, magazines, Tonies, board games, and even console games.
The anniversary celebrations will cater to different tastes and age groups. Younger visitors can take part in an Escape Game or listen to beloved children's stories. Meanwhile, adults and teens might prefer the Silent Disco, where music is streamed through wireless headphones. The library's team, previously recognised with the Hessian Library Prize, has organised the week to reflect the space's role as a social and cultural meeting point. Beyond borrowing materials, people gather here to read, study, sip coffee, or catch up with friends. Its central location at the market square makes it easily accessible, reinforcing its place as a lively part of city life.
The anniversary events run from 21 to 25 October, offering something for everyone. The library's evolution from a simple book-lending service to a dynamic community space highlights its importance in Baunatal. With daily footfall exceeding 300 visitors, its role as a social and cultural hub remains as strong as ever.
