Bangladesh's Higher Education Takes Major Leap with UK Partnership
A significant step in Bangladesh's higher education reform journey was taken with the signing of a partnership agreement between the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project and the British Airways Council. The ceremony, held at the House of Lords in the UK, was attended by dignitaries including Baroness Rosie Winterton, UGC chairman Professor SMA Faiz, and vice-chancellors of several universities. The partnership aims to enhance leadership, teaching excellence, and institutional quality in Bangladesh's higher education sector.
The agreement, signed by Stephen Forbes of the British Airways Council Bangladesh and Professor Asaduzzaman of the HEAT project, reflects a long-standing partnership between the British Airways Council and the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. Baroness Rosie Winterton highlighted the UK's enduring collaboration with Bangladesh in education and skills, and their shared belief in education as a bridge between nations. The collaboration seeks to align with international standards and establish a sustainable professional development framework for university academics and leaders. The World Bank Task Team Leader, TM Asaduzzaman, was also present at the ceremony to conclude the partnership.
The British Airways Council, in collaboration with UK partner Advance HE, will support the HEAT project in faculty development, academic leadership, and institutional capacity-building. Professor SMA Faiz, who attended the ceremony, stated that this partnership is a strategic step in Bangladesh's higher education reform journey, focusing on these key areas.
