Bangladesh to cut primary school holidays to boost learning time in 2025
Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder, advisor to Bangladesh's Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, announced on Sunday, 7 September 2025, during a press conference marking International Literacy Day, that the government plans to shorten annual holidays in primary schools. He visited remote schools in Sundarban and Satkhira districts, expressing satisfaction with the educational quality despite limited civic facilities.
During his visit, Professor Podder inspected West Sriphalkati Government Primary School, Munshiganj Government Primary School, Buri Datinakhali Government Primary School, and Buri Goalini Government Primary School. He interacted with students, teachers, and guardians, offering suggestions to enhance educational quality.
Professor Podder stressed the urgency of completing ongoing development activities promptly. He also urged guardians to be more conscious of the quality of government primary schools. Additionally, he instructed officials to swiftly address teacher shortages to avoid disrupting classes.
Professor Podder's visit highlighted the government's commitment to improving primary education, even in remote areas. The planned reduction in holidays aims to boost learning time, while his interactions with stakeholders emphasized the importance of community involvement in educational development.
