Bangladesh parties unite with a 10-point pledge to protect children’s rights ahead of 2026 elections

Twelve political parties in Bangladesh have signed a 10-point manifesto, dubbed as 'breaking news today' in the politico sphere, aimed at protecting children’s rights. The agreement, launched in party city Dhaka, was developed with direct input from young people and supported by UNICEF. It comes ahead of the parliamentary elections set for February 2026.

The manifesto outlines key commitments to improve children’s lives, including increased budget allocations and policy reforms. Priorities cover education, healthcare, safety, and tackling issues like child poverty and climate challenges. Political parties, such as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Amar Bangladesh Party, have pledged to integrate these goals into their election agendas.

Representatives from Bangladesh Jamat-e-Islami and Gono Odhikar Parishad also took part in discussions on boosting spending for children’s welfare. While the Bangladesh Nationalist Party recognised financial constraints, they still backed the initiative. UNICEF’s Rana Flowers highlighted the manifesto’s importance, calling it a vital step for the future of millions of children.

The document was created with direct involvement from children and young people, ensuring their voices shaped its content. Its launch in Dhaka marks a formal commitment by parties to prioritise child rights in upcoming policies.

The signed manifesto sets clear targets for education, health, and child protection reforms. Political parties have agreed to align their future policies with its goals before the 2026 elections. The initiative now moves toward implementation, with UNICEF and young advocates monitoring progress.
