Bangladesh launches sixth phase of free textbook distribution for 222,000 students
The distribution of textbooks for the 2026 academic year has officially begun under the Temple-Based Child and Mass Education Programme. The launch took place on Thursday, marking the start of the initiative’s sixth phase. Over 2.22 lakh students across 7,400 education centres will benefit from the scheme.
The main event was inaugurated by AFM Khalid Hossain, the religious affairs adviser. He formally opened the textbook distribution programme in a ceremony held for the occasion.
Debendra Nath Urao, serving as both the secretary of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust and the chairman of the programme, led the proceedings. His role included presiding over the event, ensuring its smooth execution. Tapan Chandra Majumdar, vice-chairman of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, attended as a special guest. His presence highlighted the trust’s involvement in supporting the educational initiative.
The programme will provide textbooks to students enrolled in centres nationwide. The sixth phase aims to reach all 2.22 lakh learners registered under the scheme. Distribution is now underway following the official launch.
