Ayodhya’s flag event empowers women and fuels local business growth

Ayodhya’s annual flag-hoisting event has grown beyond a patriotic gathering into a hub for local business and community involvement. Women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the region have turned the occasion into an opportunity to showcase their skills and boost their incomes. The celebration now highlights both civic pride and economic progress in the city.

This Independence Day, 300 SHGs in Ayodhya produced 2.5 lakh national flags as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. A total of 1,080 women participated, earning ₹20 for each flag they made. The initiative not only supported the campaign but also provided much-needed income for many who previously had few livelihood options.

The flag-hoisting event in Ayodhya has become more than a symbolic occasion—it now drives local entrepreneurship and community engagement. With continued support from programmes and associations, women in SHGs are securing steady incomes while shaping the city’s economic future. Their growing participation reflects Ayodhya’s broader transformation into a centre for grassroots development.
