A national roundtable on Australia's engagement with Indonesia, led by Asialink Education, has received a grant. Joel Backwell will helm this initiative, aiming to boost Indonesia literacy and engagement. Backwell plans to develop a roadmap that brings together experts from various sectors to advocate for improved Indonesia literacy. He hopes this will highlight the risks and lost opportunities arising from the current lack of understanding about Indonesia in Australia. The initiative aims to support the implementation of 'Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040'. Backwell intends to provide the Federal Government with practical initiatives to strengthen Indonesia literacy in schools and businesses. The Australia-Indonesia Institute's 2024-25 grants program has funded this initiative, which also includes a partnership on biofuel development between Australian and Indonesian entities. This supports Indonesia's transition to net zero. Backwell's roadmap is expected to significantly enhance Australia's engagement with Indonesia.
