Aston University and Al Jazeera Launch Groundbreaking Digital Media Master's

Aston University and the Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha have joined forces to launch a new global master's programme. The course, set to begin in September 2026, will focus on Digital Media and Communication. Leaders from both institutions have highlighted its role in shaping future media professionals for rapidly evolving industries.

The programme aims to equip students with skills for emerging media careers, including data journalism, content creation, and digital leadership. It will be delivered primarily online, with optional in-person training at Al Jazeera's Media Institute in Doha. The flexible format is designed to accommodate working professionals seeking to update their expertise.

Professor Helen Wood, Director of Aston University's MSc in Digital Media and Communications, described the partnership as a vital link between cutting-edge research and real-world practice. Eman Al Amri, Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. Together, they aim to develop advanced digital pathways that address industry demands.

Beyond the initial programme, the partnership includes plans for additional degree courses to be co-delivered between the UK and Doha. The focus remains on fostering ethical, forward-thinking media leaders capable of navigating global challenges.

The new master's programme will welcome its first students in autumn 2026. It targets experienced professionals as well as those preparing for high-demand roles in digital media. The initiative reflects a growing need for specialised training in an industry driven by technological and ethical shifts.
