AS Monaco Basketball clears €1.92M luxury tax to chase EuroLeague dreams
AS Monaco Basketball has cleared its financial hurdles after paying off €1.92 million in luxury tax. The move comes as the club pushes for a spot in the EuroLeague playoffs. Meanwhile, key player Oleksiy Yefimov continues to lead the team on the court. The club settled its luxury tax in full, distributing €120,000 to each of the 15 other teams in the Betclic Élite. Alongside this, overdue social security contributions and various fines were paid off. The payments also covered major institutional debts, easing financial pressure ahead of a critical court review.
On April 3, the Monaco Court of First Instance will assess the club's financial health. By May 15, all clubs must submit next season's operating budgets to the DNCCG, with Monaco's figures facing extra attention.
On the court, guard Mike James remains sidelined with a hamstring injury but could return as early as this Sunday or next week. Yefimov, however, has become the team's standout performer, raising expectations that he may stay in charge next season. The club has met its immediate financial obligations, including the luxury tax and outstanding debts. With playoff ambitions still alive, the focus now shifts to James' recovery and Yefimov's leadership. The upcoming court hearing and budget review will determine the next steps for Monaco's financial stability.
