She also pointed out that public school funding makes up nearly 70% of Arizona’s K-12 spending, while the ESA program costs around $1 billion in fiscal year 2026. Meanwhile, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne stated he has already taken steps to reduce waste and fraud in public schools under his leadership. The dispute centers on accountability and financial oversight in education funding. While critics push for tighter controls on the ESA program, supporters argue it already enforces stricter transparency than traditional public schools. The debate is likely to continue as both sides present competing claims on efficiency and responsibility.
