Announced winners of the 2019-20 ALL-Star Competition revealed
The UCLA Philharmonia is set to host its annual All-Star Concert on Sunday, January 26, at 7PM in Royce Hall. The concert promises an evening of exceptional performances, featuring a diverse group of talented musicians who have won the 2019/20 UCLA All-Star Competition.
Elvin Hsieh will perform Chausson's Poème for violin and orchestra. Alexander Papandrea, a second-year MM student, will take the stage to perform R. Strauss Songs, Op. 27. Sierra Allen will perform Artie Shaw Concerto for Clarinet, while Alexander Lee, another second-year student, will perform Tomasi Concerto for Alto Saxophone.
In addition to these performances, the concert will feature a number of other impressive performances. Justin Birchell will perform Ravel's "Don Quichotte à Dulcinée", Ellen Shinogle, a third-year DMA student, will perform Dana Wilson's "Leader Lieder" on trumpet. Maggie Pan will perform Grieg Piano Concerto, Op. 16, Mvt. I, and Christian Gonzales, a second-year undergraduate, will perform Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Mvt. III.
Amanda Lee will perform Kapustin Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 14, Mvt. III, and Angel Riley, another second-year MM student, will perform Britten Selections from "Les Illuminations". Khoi Dinh will perform Ibert Flute Concerto, Mvt. I, and Reese Rose, a second-year MM student, will perform Chaminade Concertino pour Flute.
The concert will also include performances by Rachel Boehl, who will play Glière Horn Concerto in Bb Major, Op. 91, Mvt. II, and Elizabeth LaCoste, who will perform Nielsen Flute Concerto, Mvt. I. Michelle Rice will perform two songs from Mussorgsky's "Songs and Dances of Death", and Jocelyn Yeh will perform Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1 in Eb Major, Op. 107, Mvt. I.
