Andalusian Horse Rescue Centre Opens Doors This Easter for Public Visits

The ARCH Andalusian Rescue Centre for Horses in Alhaurín el Grande has cared for over 1,200 animals since opening in 2007. The charity relies entirely on volunteers and public donations to support its work. This Easter, it will welcome visitors on Good Friday and the first Sunday of spring. Founded nearly two decades ago, the centre has become a haven for neglected and abandoned equines. Among its current residents are Torero, the oldest horse, and Luz de Luna, the youngest. Lola the donkey also thrives there, enjoying regular interaction with staff and visitors.

The facility operates from a site along the A404, between Alhaurín el Grande and Coin, near Vina Borrego and Hacienda Morena. It works closely with local authorities and SEPRONA, Spain's nature protection service, to address welfare concerns across the region. During open days, the public can meet the animals, learn about their care, and explore opportunities to volunteer, foster, or adopt. Staff will be on hand to guide visitors through the process. Easter donations will go directly toward feed, bedding, and veterinary costs for the rescued horses, ponies, and donkeys. The centre will open its doors on Good Friday from 10am to 2pm. It will also host visitors on the first Sunday of the spring season, offering another chance to support its mission.

The charity's continued operation depends on community generosity and volunteer efforts. Easter contributions will help maintain essential care for the animals. Visitors can also get involved by offering their time or providing a home for a rescued equine.
