Alan Washington Challenges Incumbent in Oklahoma’s District 99 Election
Alan Washington, a seasoned community leader from Oklahoma City, is running for the state House seat in District 99. His campaign emphasizes expanding support for seniors, schools, healthcare, and local job opportunities.
Washington has spent decades in civic roles, from neighborhood leadership to founding mentorship programs for young people.
Born to Alma Faye Posey Washington and Booker T. Washington, Jr., Alan grew up in Oklahoma City as one of three brothers. He attended Millwood High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts from Langston University.
His political involvement began early when he served as president of the NAACP Youth Council under civil rights leader Clara Luper. Later, he founded Brother to Brother, a mentorship initiative, and took on leadership positions in the Creston Hills Neighborhood Association as both a block captain and area captain. Washington is also a lifelong member of the historic Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church, where he has contributed in various capacities. In 2020, he published 'Just Keep Living, Child: Things Change – Things Get Better', a book addressing bullying and abuse that has since become a resource for struggling teenagers. The District 99 seat is one of 101 state House positions up for election this year. The primary takes place on June 16, followed by the general election on November 3. Current representative Ajay Pittman, who has held the seat since 2018, secured re-election in 2020, 2022, and 2024.
Washington’s campaign focuses on expanding support for seniors, schools, healthcare access, and job growth in the area. The election will determine whether his decades of community work translate into a legislative role. Voters will decide between him and incumbent Pittman in the upcoming contests.
