Perspectives: Skills for Life Opens in Florence, Empowering Neurodiverse Individuals

Perspectives: Skills for Life, a new nonprofit organisation, is set to open its doors on October 15th, located on Cavalier Drive in Florence. This innovative organisation is dedicated to helping teens and young adults with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and other developmental differences gain the skills they need for independent adulthood.

One of the programs offered by Perspectives is the PEERS Social Skills Groups, developed by UCLA, which is renowned for its effectiveness in social skills development. Another program, Surviving and Thriving in the Real World (STRW), was specifically designed by Dr. Aime Duncan, PhD, for individuals with autism.

Every program at Perspectives is tailored to the unique strengths and needs of neurodiverse learners. The Healthy Living Habits program covers essential topics such as online safety, boundaries, relationships, and wellness. Perspectives offers over 30 inclusive social events annually that promote connection, belonging, and real-life practice.

Perspectives' approach is a dynamic blend of in-person instruction, hands-on practice, and community-based learning. The organisation is designed to fill a critical gap in services for neurodiverse individuals, providing holistic programs that emphasise life skills development, independence, and social-emotional growth.

The Grand Opening Event in October will feature facility tours, interactive program demonstrations, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event is free and open to the public. Perspectives is actively seeking volunteers, educators, donors, and community partners to help bring the STRW program to life.

Currently, Perspectives is enrolling participants ages 11-21 for the Surviving and Thriving in the Real World (STRW) program. To learn more, get involved or donate, visit www.nkyperspectives.com.
